Looking to gain international work experience while traveling Europe and immersing yourself in the Portuguese culture? This program is for you!  Professional Internship + Academic Study = You Abroad
  • Work around the world with major global corporations, international NGO’s, or local businesses.
  • Fulfills requirements for most required internship, co-op, and other internship experiences across BGSU colleges and degree programs (consult College advisors and Education Abroad for details on specific majors)
  • BGSU Global Interns concurrently enroll in a BGSU language or culture course specific to internship location, ensuring the best professional and intellectual internship experience possible.
Lisbon internship students intern an average of 30 hours/week while simultaneously studying Portuguese culture. Internship placements match students based on professional interests and skills. Internship placement and an excellent system of public transportation ensures students easy travel between arranged housing, academic classes, and professional internships.  

English speaking internships in Lisbon are open to any major or minor. No language knowledge required.

Lisbon is the capital and largest city in Portugal. Lisbon is recognized as a global city because of its importance in finance, commerce, media, entertainment, arts, international trade, education and tourism. Lisbon is also one of the oldest cities in the world (pre dating London, Paris and Rome by centuries) which contributes to a vibrant and rich history/culture. Compared to other European capitals Lisbon has a relatively low cost of living.

BGSU 4900: Internship Abroad*
Variable: 1-12 credit hours
Students will have to complete a minimum of 120 clock hours to meet the internship requirement as determined by each specific academic department approving the experience abroad.

*If students would like the internship to count towards a specific degree requirement they must obtain permission from the relevant department. Please consult with the Education Abroad office. 

This program allows you to live in the heart of Lisbon while making friends with other program participants. You'll live in apartments in the city and commute to your internship each weekday. You'll experience the true Portuguese way of life with the option to travel Europe on the weekends! 

The accommodation will vary each term but we can guarantee it will be located in central Lisbon, in safe areas and close to public transport. The housing fee will cover all bills including; water, electric, gas and WIFI. Accommodations will also be equipped with bed linens and a towel. Roommate selection available upon request.

BGSU students who qualify for financial aid for a semester at BGSU may also qualify for funding to assist with the cost of the program. Students should consult with a Counselor in the Office of Financial Aid as early as possible for specific details about aid eligibility and summer aid forms.

If contacting via email please include your name and ID number along with the program name and semester you are planning to study abroad.  For appointments, please also include several days and times that work for you.  

In addition to financial aid, there are International Travel Grants and general Education Abroad scholarship opportunities that are available for students on the Education Abroad WEBSITE.

Since this is a BGSU program students will be billed for all program costs through their bursar's account. Students are eligible to use all scholarships and financial aid. 
Students will pay the full tuition and fees for both the culture class and the internship credits in addition to an internship fee/program fee.

The program fee includes internship placement, housing, airport transfer, visa assistance and on site support.
Deposit: A non-refundable $1000 deposit will be due by the application deadline
