Program Description:

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Mediterranean Architecture and Design is a three-credit lecture/lab course focuses on the practice in architecture and design that has its roots in the innovative use of technological and sustainable application, to include art and craftsmanship. Topics include site visits throughout Spain and guest critiques by visiting architects and designers from the Mediterranean area. Students will visit several cities in Spain including: Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Toledo and Seville. 
 
ARCH 4800 students majoring in architecture can qualify for co-op credit with the completion of an additional 1 credit, 1st six-week internship, during Summer Session 2019.

This program is open to students of any major but targeted towards those in architecture as well as students majoring in art, art history, graphic design, interior design and visual communication.

LOCATION

Students will visit several cities in Spain including: Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Barcelona and Seville.

ACCOMMODATION
All students stay in a BGSU-arranged dorms/hostels.

COURSE
ARCH 4800 (Undergraduate) 3cr,Topics in Architecture and Design 
ARCH 6800 (Graduate) 3cr Seminar in Architecture and Design

Course addresses topics, trends, and developments in architecture and environmental design, including theory, technology, and professional practice in the education of design professionals in architecture and allied fields. May be repeated on approval of adviser. Approved for Distance Education.

EXCURSIONS
Students will meet both professionals (exhibition directors, educators, gallerists, etc.) and emerging practicing architects, designers, artists, etc.

Planned excursions (tentative) include:
-Architecture and design galleries 
-Field study/Art walk Madrid- Places, Parks & Museums
-Investigation: Rafael Moneo's architecture
-Investigation Norman Foster and H&dM architecture

FINANCIAL AID
Because this program is part of Bowling Green State University study abroad options, financial aid that could be applied to study on BGSU’s main campus can usually be applied equally to study in the program abroad.

Program Fee $3456 (this includes round trip airfare, housing, in country transportation, & activity fees). A non-refundable $500 deposit will be due by the application deadline
Mandatory International Health Insurance $1.46 per day of program 
Education Abroad Fee $50
