Program Description:


Sookmyung Women's University (SMU) is Korea's first national private women's school. It was founded in 1906 during the latter stages of the Korean empire, one of the most difficult periods in the nations history. SMU has accumulated invaluable education experience, research capabilities and community service experience.

SMU is located in Seoul South Korea. Seoul is not only the capital but a sprawling metropolis where modern skyscrapers, high tech subways and pop culture meet Buddhist temples, palaces and street markets.

SMU offers up to 150 courses in English through undergraduate and graduate programs. Students can choose a variety of courses such as Korean language, International Studies, Korean Studies, Business and Economics, etc. There are also many opportunities to experience traditional Korean culture on and off campus through lectures and field trips.

Sookmyung provides six types of dormitories for International Students(exchange and degree-seeking students only). Five types of dormitories are on campus and one(UR SEOUL) is off campus.

Because this exchange program is part of Bowling Green State University study abroad options, financial aid that could be applied to study on BGSU’s main campus can usually be applied equally to study in the program abroad. If contacting via email please include your name and ID number along with the program name and semester you are planning to study abroad.  For appointments, please also include several days and times that work for you.

In addition to financial aid, there are International Travel Grants and general Education Abroad scholarship opportunities that are available for students on the Education Abroad WEBSITE.

Exchange Programs---Students participating in BGSU exchange programs will pay their tuition and fees as if they were studying at Bowling Green State University. Students are responsible for their own housing, room and board, health insurance, and incidental expenses.
