Would you like the opportunity to do your student teaching experience in a very different setting? If you’d like to work with culturally diverse student groups, you may be interested in student teaching in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. If you’re independent, inquisitive, creative and adventurous, this opportunity may be for you! Seniors majoring in Adolescent to Young Adult, Middle Childhood, or Inclusive Early Childhood* have the opportunity to complete student teaching requirement at Our Lady of Mercy School in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil during the fall or spring semester each year. The program will run from February through April.
*IEC eligibility is directly dependent on placement and cooperating mentor teacher information from the junior year preschool placement.

All students participating in this placement opportunity will be registered as full-time students at BGSU for the term of their student teaching.
Students selected for the Brazil student teaching placement will stay in on-site apartments arranged by the Our Lady of Mercy School at no additional cost to the student. Students will eat most of their meals at the school but are also provided with a weekend stipend for food.
Students in the past have visited beaches, mountains, hiking trails, landmarks, and festivals.
Because this exchange program is part of Bowling Green State University study abroad options, financial aid that could be applied to study on BGSU’s main campus can usually be applied equally to study in the program abroad. In addition to financial aid, there are International Travel Grants and general Education Abroad scholarship opportunities that are available for students on the Education Abroad WEBSITE.
Students participating in this program will pay their tuition and fees as if they were studying at Bowling Green State University. The program provides round trip air-fare to and from Brazil as well as housing costs and a weekend stipend for food. Students should expect to pay for personal expenses.
